It’s approaching that time of year in Texas when the thunderstorms will be rolling in regularly. Late Winter and Early Spring include weather that fluctuates on an hourly basis sometimes. Having a raincoat and boots handy for those drizzly mornings or evenings makes leaving the house that much more enjoyable. I find that rain gear is something I don’t think about needing until the moment I really need it. And then it’s like I needed it yesterday. This is your sign to do a quick inventory in your household and make sure you have working umbrellas, rain jackets, and boots ready for those March, April, and May showers. Open each umbrella to make sure it’s operable and then discard or donate items that no longer fit or have been damaged. Trust me on this, you’re much more likely to be productive if you don’t have to fight the weather while doing so. A few other things I like to have on hand for rainy days include extra hair ties or a headband, mousse to keep frizzies at bay, and a setting spray for my makeup. It’s the little things in life that can help increase the quality of every day.
Other Posts I’ve Done Wearing Rain Gear
This past year I’ve made it a goal to visit as many National and State Parks as possible. They house some of the most beautiful scenery! This season alone I visited Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Padre Island National Sea Shore, Hot Springs National Forest, and Davy Crockett National Forest. It’s so refreshing to get away from most people and wander the trails of nature. I’ve been able to experience things you just don’t get in the city around people. From driving 50 miles off-road to getting lost in the Fall foliage National Parks are the way to go!
One of my favorite things about Fall is getting to pile on layers! Recently I refreshed some of my rain gear to include a lightweight olive rain jacket that can be worn over a sweater or layered with a long sleeve shirt. The price point was incredible and the cut is so flattering! Having a cinched waist gives a feminine shape to the jacket without a lot of bulk. Although I love my Hunter rain boots (I have a tan pair of the original tall and then a patent red version of the huntress) I decided to opt for a shorter boot this season. Again, going with an olive green I picked these up from Amazon. After walking around for an hour in them as a test run I was surprised by how comfortable they are! You can shop both my jacket and boots as well as a bunch of other chic options below to brighten gloomy days!
I purchased this rain jacket (identical here) and these low-cut boots for under $40 on Amazon. I really love the jacket and give it a 10 out of 10. You can cinch the waist, the hood is easy to access and it has snaps for easy dressing. It comes in a few colors but I opted for a classic olive green. The boots are a good option for their price point and I’d recommend them for a growing teen or tween. I will admit I prefer my Hunter boots to these and they have an option in a similar style here. The rain boots do have padding and are easy to slip on. I paired both with a babydoll shirt dress for a relaxed look. If you are looking for a warmer outfit, layer a puffy vest and or sweater underneath for additional warmth. This jacket is not insulated with fleece but more of a layering piece.
Last but not least make sure you have a good umbrella. I’ve had a variety of them over the years. When I was in High School we lived in South Korea and during the month of August, it literally rains every day during monsoon season. Trust me, umbrellas are clutch. I love a classic, clear bubble umbrella like this one. You can also opt for a rainbow one (see this post) or a bright bold color like this red one (see this post). Whatever you choose, go with durability, and don’t be afraid to spend money on something of good quality. I’ve rounded up a ton of options all on Amazon below for you to shop!
