Into the Woods

Dress: Boutique find (similar here and here) // Shoes: Carlos by Carlos Santana (last seen here) // Bag: BCBG MaxAzria

Two weekends ago, my family and I attended the Texas Bluebonnet Festival where I picked up this sweet little embroidered dress. I fell in love the minute I saw it with a drop waist and poppy red detailing. There is something really carefree about the way it's shaped. I decided to go for a bohemian look by braiding my hair in a halo braid (and you can learn to do it yourself here with my newest tutorial!).

I would describe a lot of what I wear as preppy, bohemian and feminine. I blend these styles quite frequently, without taking any of them to be too over-the-top. For this outfit, an embroidered tunic dress with a soft blushy bag and nude sandals keep it feeling light and airy. I think if I went with too much leather, it would look too hippie and I prefer to add a girly twist. I like to think of my hair as an accessory and oftentimes find myself using it as a way to extend my outfit. Styling doesn't just have to be about the clothes, but the entire look including makeup, shoes, bags and hair.

A tunic dress is my ideal item to pack for a weekend away or vacation. It doubles easily as a swimsuit coverup or you can throw on ankle boots, sandals or even a cute pair of ballet flats to trot around in. I love this one that I found under $40 right now! Also, really like this navy blue one and this cute white one. You may want to try a few styles to be able to get the right fit. Having it relaxed fitting is different than the wrong sizing.
