Home: Apartment Re-do

I've been in my home now for almost two years. When I first moved in I had barely any furniture. Over the past two years, I've slowly accumulated more and more stuff. Although I am incredibly grateful for all of the items I own, I feel like my place is getting a little cluttered. I decided over the next 90 days to give it a face lift! I thought it would be fun to share some of the process with you from planning through implementing.

Inspiration

I love looking to things I already own and on Pinterest for inspiration. It's a quick and visual. I am beginning with the color scheme posted above of cobalt, soft blush and a light blue. Here an there I'll use white. I'm going to keep all of the walls in my place a light cream/beige.

How It Looks Now...

A few years ago, I began with the idea of using a soft pink as one of the main colors in my home. I live in a smaller place (about 1000 square feet) and have it set up with an open floor plan. At the time, there was so much empty space, but as you live somewhere longer and longer - things are added. I already owned a bed frame, dining table and these sea glass green curtains. At the time, I decided to use what I had and add things as I came across them with hints of a deep red.

What the future holds

This year I'm going to transition out of using mint and the deep red. I'll be incorporating an icy blue color, cobalt and navy to give it a feminine but nautical feel. I have tons of blue transfer-ware dishes and cobalt glassware I'd like to display. So inspiration really has been drawn from things I own, but different items from when I first moved in.

Here is a (sort of) checklist of what I plan to change:

  1. Living Area - Remove trio of paintings and replace with flowered ones. Remove pink sequin pillows and add soft icy blue velvet ones. Change out my coffee table for a slightly smaller one.

  2. Dining Room - Remove painting and hang transfer-ware on wall. Change out vase, but keep my grandmother's silk flowers. Also, rearrange ladder bookshelf to display all of my blue and pink glassware.

  3. Sleeping Area - Donate bed frame. Hang pink shelves above bed to dispaly a few things and paintings underneath. Repaint a dresser light blue and buy a few white bookshelves for more storage. Remove mint curtains and use simple white sheer ones to let light in.

  4. Bathroom - Swap out the Paris themed shower curtain for something blue inspired. Add cobalt handtowels.

  5. Patio - Create a daybed and add scalloped painted terracotta pots. I'd like to create a space better for reading and lounging. Right now there's a table and chairs out there that are not really all that comfortable.

I'll be posting projects and transformations of the space as I go along. My goal is to complete all of it by the end of the Summer - within 4 months. Creating a timeline and breaking it into pieces really helps narrow down the focus while being able to digest it. The month of April, my main goal is to get rid of my bed frame, re-arrange the furniture to the new floor plan. I'd also like to knock out hanging my copper pots and blue transfer ware in the kitchen and dining room. What are some of your current interior projects? I'd love to hear about them - leave a comment or tweet me!
