Keep it Casual

Ah, I love that at my new job I can go casual. Yes, there is still a warm place in my heart for heels and dresses, but it's nice to have the opportunity to really mix it up. I've been in a "dress professional" environment for a very long time. It's nice to get buttoned up, but I try to walk at least 7k on my lunch break 3 times a week - that gets pretty difficult when wear heels. With the new place I get to work, we do most of our job remotely which makes it easy to wear something a little more on the casual side.

Lately I've really fallen in love with the look of loafers and driving shoes. These are navy, which I prefer over black. I've noticed that since I have a skintone that's more warm than cool - navy tends to pop nicely against the warmth of the color of my skin. In the summer, I tan a golden color. However, as the months cool off - I'm in the sun a little less and my skin is more of a creamy color. Either way, it looks better with navy.

I've been really working on setting forth positive lifestyle goals and choices. I've shared a few How To's about eating healthier and getting bettter sleep. One of the other things I've been working hard on is averaging at least 7k steps a day. Of course, 10k is a my goal - but it's harder to do on days it's rainy or I don't get a walk during lunch. Since I'm lucky enough to have a beautiful park where I live and the days are cooler (our summers are ridiculous in Texas), I actually find the walk energizes me at lunch.

A few other ways I "get my steps in" include parking at the back of parking lots, taking an extra lap around the grocery store, or taking the stairs in parking garages. Sometimes I purposefully walk further to make sure I get more steps in. I also pace when I have to take long cell phone calls. The point is to just keep your body moving.

Doing a little everyday catches up in the long run. Wearing shoes that are stylish and comfortable are also key for me to keep on moving. If I do wear heels to work, I always make sure I carry an extra pair of ballet flats in my tote or car. Another thing that really encourages me to walk is a reusable water bottle. It's bigger than a disposable one you would buy out of vending machine or pack of water bottles. I also carry a tote most days. Cross-bodys or messenger bags are the easiest to tote since they distribute weight across your body. I'd love to hear your ideas about how to get more exercise in without going to a gym!
