"One step at a time is good walking."
Nothing beats spending time with your family, friends and pets. Paws was my dog from college who now lives at my parents house. They say that people are either "dog" people or "cat" people. I've always been a dog person. They are so loyal, loving and can be the best companion during tough times. Every time I visit my parents, I make it a point to take Paws on long walks.
I've talked a lot over the past few months about the increase in walking I've done. Walking has been said to reduce cardiac stress and lower blood pressure. There is something meditative about getting outdoors and take a few strides. I started off small by just taking 15 minutes every day at lunch. Then, on the weekends I would go for longer periods of time. After a few months I was up to 45 minute walks during my lunch break and 2-3 hour periods on the weekends.
You may wonder... how does she find the time? Well, that's exactly what I do - I find the time. I've never been much of a TV watcher and during the daylight, I try to spend as much of my time outside as possible. It wasn't something that happened overnight, I just found the more I walked, the more I wanted to walk. Suddenly 3 miles was easy and my body just sort of meta-morphed. It became leaner as a result. My stress levels were manageable and I slowly started making more and more room in my schedule. Now I look forward to rising early on the weekends to get an hour at sunrise in.
