How to: Borrow from the Boys
Lately, I've really pushed myself to create new looks with old items. This romper (last seen back around the holidays) takes on a new meaning with a sweet little cropped jacket and accessories. Although it's hard to see in the pictures, there is a small black and white stripe pattern with yellow piping. I decided to add a simple boater and cap toe loafers to give it a fresh look that's a little menswear inspired.
Although I wear a ton of girly items, I like to occasionally throw in something with a more androgynous feel. Today's ensemble was just about that! Taking a few hints from the boys department and layering for a simple, neutral outfit. Last time I wore this romper, I added heels and a fur jacket. This time, to keep it appropriate for daytime - it was all about flats. They are the perfect option for a day of strutting around shopping or going to brunch.
I love wearing hats and this season is the first time I've worn a classic boater. I've been really inspired lately by 1920s and 1930s styles - specifically, Atlantic Boardwalk styles like beachy stripes, cap toes and sun hats. I love getting inspiration from other eras and bringing it up to date. (Remember when I wore this Victorian inspired dress earlier this year? Stay tuned because I'm going to bring it back in a whole new way for Summer this year. I've always had an affinity for vintage looks, items and often shop in vintage boutiques. You just can't replace authentic pieces and so often they are made better than what's on the market today.
