Houston Hotspots: North Boulevard
This is one of my favorite photoshoots of all time. I did some research a few months back and found a street over near Rice University called North Boulevard. It's a small historic street where the trees grow in almost a tunnel like form. Last weekend I thought it would be the perfect place to spend Saturday afternoon. This couldn't have been more true. The streets in that area are absolutely breathtaking and I was so glad I made an afternoon out of it.
Houston has so many beautiful places. A lot of people think that it's all concrete and oil companies. We have artsy areas like EADO and Montrose, we have cultural areas like our version of Chinatown or Harwin. We also have places with charm like the Heights. I am all about exploring your own city and trying new places.
North Boulevard is actually part of a neighborhood where these trees grow up and down a few of the streets. I saw tons of people out for an afternoon stroll and fit right in. It was nice to get a change of scenery. Since I live in Cypress, we mostly have farmland and pine trees, it was such a different feel. I almost felt transported to a whole different city.
After walking for a little while, I decided to head over and grab some brunch and coffee. Coco Crepes had an amazing vegetarian dish complete with my favorite goat cheese and delicious sun dried tomato sauce. It actually comes with a different sauce, but since I don't like spicy hot foods - I changed the order to suit my preferences. They also served me the most amazing cortado that didn't even require sugar.
Another place that I didn't make it to that day, but have hopes to soon visit in that same area is the Turrell Skyspace. It's an acoustic exhibit that airs at dusk. I am on a mission to make it a point to visit soon. It has a light sequence at sunset on the campus of Rice University. I challenge you over the weekend to get out and see a new part of your city. Maybe it's a restaurant you've never tried or a park you haven't been too. Whatever the case, broaden your horizon and you may find something new and enlightening!
