The Mean Reds

If you follow along on Instagram, your probably already saw this post is themed after a quote from Breakfast at Tiffany's. I've been on a mean streak of wearing red lately, and that movie quote about "the mean reds" came to mind. Classic movies are some of my favorites to watch. I love Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and anything directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Movies from the 1930's up until the 1970's were filmed almost as if you were watching a play. There's something about the costumes and the dialogue that gives me a nostaligic feeling when I finish watching one. I also love old westerns and musicals.
Inspiration doesn't just come from scrolling through Instagram or social media for me (although I do enjoy following along people's stories). I find inspiration in many places including songs, movies, costumes, nature and life experiences. I was watching Marie Antoinette last weekend and fell in love with the bow mules and velvet blue chokers. You'll probably see looks emerge over the next few weeks as a result of watching that movie.
Today I wore a dress converted over to a skirt and a wrap top (last seen here with jeans). The belt for the top is a separate piece, so instead of wrapping at the top of where the skirt and shirt meet, I created more of a gathered look and wore it an inch below the waistline. I decided to add brown leather shoes and my favorite vintage find - this classic Coach leather bag. The final details included my favorite shade of red lipstick (which stays on really good) and a pop of white nail polish.
I mentioned in this post one of my goals for photography during the upcoming months was to work on better compositions. This setting was a fun challenge to take on. Being able to create movement within photographs while maintaining composure in the photographs is no easy feat! I found good lighting really helps the photograph turn out better. When clothes have this much volume, it's fun to capture their entirety instead of leaving them in stagnant poses.
