Day to Night

"Give a girl the right shoes, and she will conquer the world."

As NYE approaches, I thought I'd start with a few going out worthy posts. First up is a good day to night look... or a maybe-I've-worn-heels-too-long and it's time to kick them off look... Whatever your fancy may be, as much as I love a high heel - it's just not practical to wear all day long and into the night. Especially these bad boys.

A statement skirt is not something I pull out every day, especially something on the shorter side. To balance out the hem of this skirt, I went for a high neck satin blouse. I have a rule when it comes to showing off a body part, only show one at a time. If it's a dramatic neckline, I go for a maxi or wide leg pair of pants. If it's a tiny skirt or a pair of shorts, then I wear a looser fitted blouse, sweater or a shell with a modest neck. Remember, one part at a time. There's a fine line between wearing something flattering and something trashy.

With a skirt like this, a simple flat ballet or a pair of loafers makes it perfect for daytime. Since so many of us are traveling around the holidays, it's nice to have a roomy tote like this one or this new one in a rose gold. You can easily throw your change of heels and a simple clutch in as a wallet. That way, later on into the night you can make the switch-a-roo and bring on the glam! It doesn't take a lot of effort to go from a day look to a night look.

Another idea would be if you happen to dance a little too much and need to swap your shoes out to head home. I carry a pair of flats with me almost everywhere I go. I just walk too much to wear only heels. When you get in at least 4-5 miles a day, good shoes are a must. Think about it as your main source of transportation. If you are in a metro city, wear your flats while on the train or getting to wherever you are going that evening. If you are walking on the streets of New Orleans or Vegas - all that concrete can take a toll on your tootsies. Take good care of your feet and give them some much needed love. Check out this pair or this pair for some cute ones to carry around.

I'm going to be posting fun looks all week for NYE inspiration. I have several different looks planned for different occasions and look forward to posting a few of them for the big evening! Hope you had a lovely Christmas and can't wait to share more with you over the next few days!
