Mixing Prints // Floral and Plaid

Dress and Coat: Old Navy // Pumps: Cato // Bag: Kate Spade New York (love this one)

Happy New Year! I hope you all had the most relaxing and fun weekend catching up with family and friends. Now it’s Monday and I’m trying to get life back in order and in the swing of things. After all of the amazing food, travel, and time off it’s been a little overwhelming to think about all of the things I now need to get in order. But, hey – one step at a time, right?

Today I wanted to share a little with you about how to style and mix prints. For years I stayed away from anything that wasn’t a stripe or a solid. If you are one of those people that feel like prints are overwhelming, I feel ya! I was the exact same way. I felt like I was really taking a leap of faith when I started incorporating florals into my closet. Well, fast forward a few years (and countless experimental outfits) and now I love prints!

One of my favorite combinations is florals and plaid. This outfit works because it’s done in the same color scheme. It’s not too busy, but still has a lot of interest. If you feel like this is a little bold for you, try a simple polka dot with a plaid. Polka dots also look great with stripes! Black and white prints are easy to nail if you want to start there and add a few pops of color to your accessories. Or if you have a particular color that really works for you (like blue or red), pick two prints in that same color. Add a few monochromatic or neutral accessories and run out the door!
