A Morning in Charleston

Charleston has to be one of the most beautiful cities. The city entailed everything lovely - pastel backdrops, classic architecture, and history on every corner. If you only have a few hours to spend there, Here’s a little guide for a morning around the city:

Grab a Cup of Coffee

Let’s start with the coffee. I'm not sure if it's because I was conditioned as a child by my parents as they made it every single day - but I have grown to ache for it in the mornings. Tricera Coffee is a quaint little shop on a side street in the French Quarters where you can pick up all sorts of delicious options. Their signature drink (and one I insisted on trying) was a Saffron Latte. I had mine served with almond milk and it was just the perfect amount of savory. It was unusual to have a spice usually reserved for Indian cuisine. They also open really early, which was perfect to grab a cup before watching the sunrise.

Park by White Point Garden

After picking up a delicious cup of coffee, head South to park your car near White Point Garden. The garden is filled with trees that shade the entire area. You can take a few minutes to sit on a park bench. You can visit the Confederate Defenders of Charleston Monument right along the coast while you were there.

East Bay Street

You can walk along East Bay Street from White Point Garden seaside until it reaches the edge of the French Quarter. If you continue down the street, you'll find row after row of pastel painted buildings. That was one of my favorite parts of getting to see the city. Every home was picturesque and almost regal in architecture. Similar in some ways to New Orleans, but had more of a colonial feel.

Waterfront Park

You take a right onto East Elliott Street and cut over to stroll alongside the water at Waterfront Park. There is a lovely fountain that leads you out to the Pier with large swings and faces East. It's the perfect place for a sunrise. There were soft waves overlooking Shuts Folly Island and dolphins laced in an out of the waves as the sun came up. You can sit on large swings and feel the breeze sway them back and forth. Once the sun came up, you can stroll back down the coastline all the way back to White Point Garden.

The city is filled with so many photographic corners. Bring a good pair of walking shoes and a camera with memory so you can capture all of the history and charm of Charleston.
