Three Spring Looks

With Spring finally being upon us, I've been spending as much time outdoors as possible. From a recent trip to Port Aransas, TX to go camping on the beach to simple afternoons walking around to see all of the beautiful blooms I can't help but breath in all the fresh air and see the beautiful blue skies. It all finallllllyyyy stopped being cold and rainy here in Houston (sorry y'all Northerners - I'll have a post up for you soon from my trip to New England.) With all that being said, I thought I'd share a few looks I've worn over the past two weeks.

Velvet can easily be carried into Spring if it's worn with Spring accessories. For the first look, I paired a pleated velvet skirt with a simple white top and lace up velvet ballet flats. What works with this look is to stay in lighter colors and then add a scarf, sunnies and lovely basket bag. This basket bag was one I picked up last Summer and it's the perfect size for carrying lipstick, a small wallet, cell phone and keys. Also, the midi length skirt keeps you warm in the chilly mornings (temperatures here have been dropping to 50 degrees lately at night and into the morning) but still breezy for our afternoons with a little more sun.

For the second look I've been drooling over striped blue dresses. Seriously, I think I have a problem. I've purchased three blue and white dresses this year. But they've all served me well. Blue and white makes a great shirt dress! Shirt dresses are such a classic piece and will carry you throughout the years. I love the combination of blue and pink so I added lace up sandals, a striped clutch and a swipe of pink lipstick.

The third look I wore to a daytime party and paired this gingham shirt (which I also own in blue) with overalls, a pink ribbon tied in my hair, a pop of pink flats and finally the same striped clutch. This look was playful without being over powering and a perfect alternative to wear jeans.

Carrying  items from season to season is important if you are looking to establish a wardrobe that's lasting. Finding items with nice textures, fabrics and a great sillouette to transition one piece to the next season. Sticking to colors in the same families (here I chose pastel pink, pastel blue, hot pink and then dark blue) made it so simple to mix and match.

What are some of your pieces that are carrying over from Winter to Spring?
