Small Town Charm: Ruffle Striped Dress in Bellville, TX
Over the weekend I took a little trip about an hour outside of Houston to visit one of the Top Ten small towns in Texas for beautiful scenery. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. Located west of the city is a little town of Bellville. First of all, on a Saturday it was NOT crowded. I've never been a big fan of crowds so if you are looking for a quiet place to get away for delicious food and shopping this is it! Second of all, it's nestled on the way to Austin. A great stopping point if you'd like to get a little small town charm on your way from the two cities (keep in mind it will make your drive a little longer, but not to fret - it's not too far out of the way.)
Upon arriving, I visited a boutique called Treasure Crafts that's perfect for gift shopping. Seriously, I'll be coming back for Christmas. It was filled with everything you can imagine from home goods, to spice mixes, little things for kids and a variety of kitchen supplies. Not to mention the staff was so kind and the store is decorated with the cutest decor.
Afterwards, I walked around the town taking in all of the lovely buildings. Many are painted in pastels and have been around since the 1800's. One of the buildings dates back to early 1800's and is made out of wood! It was surreal to see! There is even a jail museum which looks almost like a mini castle built in 1996. Although it closed before I could get there on Saturday afternoon it was pretty cool to see the structure.
By this point, we were getting pretty hungry so we decided to stop at Newman's Bakery. Again, we were served with the utmost kindness and ordered salad and sandwiches. The salad was filled with delicious olives, tomatoes, banana peppers and served on a delicious bed of spring mix. Sometimes when I go to cafes their salads are sub par. Not Newman's! The sandwich was a ham and cheese and it was loaded. The portions were generous and left us feeling really satisfied. They also have a huge bakery filled with every pastry you can imagine.
One site I wanted to visit but ran out of time is Newman's castle. The castle tours begin at Newman's bakery and features a huge moat! Not something you see everyday in Texas. I am planning another trip to feature just the castle but if you want to check it out you can view their website.
Pretty Stripe Dresses
For the trip I wore a blue striped dress I featured a few weeks ago on instagram. It's under $30 and fits perfectly. I also found this one for $22 and this one in a shorter version. I liked it so much I bought it in red. I wore it with these Nautica wedges which were so chic and comfortable and an adorable mini basket bag. During this time of year dresses are the perfect choice. They fit much looser than shorts but still give you a breathable garment to keep from getting hot. I've linked several similar options below!
