Rollout the Red Carpet for the Best in Winter Skincare

There’s a handful of things I obsessed with (mostly dogs and coffee) and skincare is at the top of that list. Being that I already have dry skin desert and cold dry climates aren’t necessarily my best friend. On the flip side, hot and humid isn’t really conducive to my hormonal acne prone sensitive skin. You can see the dilemma when it comes to my obsession. After many products, a lack of a skin care regimen, following a skincare regimen religiously, changing my makeup and working in the beauty industry I am finally making consistent traction on this face you see. I figured it would be about that time to share ways to help your skin during these chilly months!

Start By Exfoliating

I’m pretty sure you guys are blue in the face from hearing this over the past few months, but exfoliating is one of the BEST things you can do to help your skin improve. It increases cell turnover, removes dead cells and allows products to be better absorbed. You can exfoliate gently daily by adding a booster to your cleanser. Then, at least one time per week use an exfoliating mask to do a deep clean. Your skin will feel so much smoother and softer by doing so! Exfoliating helps acne, dry skin, even skin tone and cleanses to prevent bacteria.

Get Rid of Chapped Lips

With wind, sun, snow, ice, wet conditions and dry air it’s no wonder our lips end up chapped during the cooler months. First things first, don’t forget to exfoliate your lips! Then, you’ll want to moisturize and condition with tinted lip balm. Use lipsticks that have moisturizing components like a lip gloss or lipstick. Finally, at the end of the day make sure you use a cleansing stick to remove your makeup properly and leave your lips moisturized.

Sooth Redness

Once you’ve cleansed and exfoliated you’ll want to look for calming agents in makeup and skincare products. You can add boosters to your moisturizers, serum, and cleanser to help hydrate, replenish and calm the skin. Over time this results in better skin appearance and less redness. Another favorite to use is a peel off brightening mask with licorice root in it. You’ll not only fade dark spots and even your skin tone but also reduce fine lines since it tightens pores! Two birds, one stone! Follow with a rosewater toner to also calm your skin and then you’ll want to nourish with night cream, day cream and beauty oil.

Layer Moisturizing Products

The biggest issue I hear over and over regarding skin concerns this time of year is dry skin. Being a person who has dry skin all year round, I have serious experience with this issue. I’ve found that slapping on a little moisturizer isn’t going to cut it during the dry months. Think about skin care just like you would a winter outfit - scarf, hat, long johns, boots, coat, sweaters. You layer the products to achieve the results your looking to achieve. The same works for your skin! Look for hydrating boosters for your cleanser and moisturizers. You’ll also want to look for products like hydrating serums and beauty oils. These will help treat and this beauty oil in particular is loaded with Vitamin C and helps mimic the good oils your skin naturally produces. Drink tons of water and eat fresh produce for additional hydration.
