Five Transitional Summer to Fall Outfits
I had to make an unexpected trip to Long Beach this past week and let me tell you it's been an exciting scenery change. I started pulling out Fall things over the past two weeks and it's been so warm here! It is in the low 90's all week long. I decided yesterday I'd pop into a few retails shops and score summer clearance finds like a pair of plaid cropped pants and linen shorts. If you live in a warmer climate in the South or something along the coast then you know what it's like to have all of the Fall feels while you're still sweating profusely from heat waves. I’ve incorporated a few clever tactics for transitioning from Summer to Fall in a warm climate into five looks here.
The first change I make for each season includes textures, patterns and accessories. Although I may not be ready to give up tank tops, linen dresses and shorts this time of year I can change my shoes. Try swapping sandals for a pair of leopard print sneakers or flats. It’s an expensive way to play with patterns and trends without having to revamp your whole closet!
This time of year it’s still perfectly fine to wear cotton and linen fabrics, but I do think changing color palettes from the bright shades of Summer like dandelion yellow to a muted deeper shade like mustard. Pull out anything you own that’s navy, emerald, olive, burgundy and mustard. Just the swap of a burgundy tank top instead of a white one makes all of the difference!
Lightweight sweaters and jackets layer over shorts and sundresses. If you don’t already own a few lightweight sweaters I recommend grabbing some. Sweaters are a great option to layer later in the season under a blazer or button down. For now, pair them over shorts for a laid back look that will keep you warm during the evenings and into the night once the sun goes down.
Another easy swap is to exchange your summer fabrics for something like velvet or tweed. This jumpsuit is great for this time of year for an evening out. It’s a lightweight velvet with strappy details up top and slim fitting legs. I wore a suede cropped moto jacket over top and added pumps with studded details that I normally would not pull out during the heat of the warmer months.
Plaid is your friend this time of year! I grabbed these cropped plaid pants that will look amazing with a blazer or fitted sweater in a few weeks. For now, I’m wearing it with a fitted burgundy tank top, slides and a plaid tote. Little changes to the patterns you wear give your outfits a face lift! You can shop a bunch of Fall picks below. There are a few luxury items but don’t be afraid to experiment with a lower end garment to see if you like the colors, textures and how they fit into your current wardrobe!
The past six months of my life have been emotionally challenging. Postpartum combined with several joyful life changes left me feeling like I had new roles to step into and the pressure was high. Right before my husband and I had our baby we made the decision to start a new business. From the outside it looked like I had it together, but the next few months would unveil a completely different side of me that I wasn’t prepared to deal with.
