Gingham & Green

The most important thing is to enjoy your life. To be happy. It’s all that matters.
— Audrey Hepburn

I spent a few years in a really dark place in my life. There were a number of contributing factors, but there was a real struggle internally and externally in my life. I realized over the course of that time, that sometimes we have to decide what we don't want in life before we realize what we do. Although Three Heel Clicks is mostly about style, interiors and beauty - I feel compelled to share personal stories in my writing.

I read this quote as I've been on an inspiration quest through Pinterest. As I continue to narrow down what I want in life, I've realized that old vintage style is a heavy influence in my life. Women of the earlier part of the 20th century like Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Bridgette Bardot are among a few of my notable style icons. But, they are also life icons. They carried them self with confidence no matter what situation they were put in.

It's not just style icons I look to for inspiration, I am deeply moved by music and movies of the 1940s. I regularly listen to station no. 73 on Sirius-XM radio in my car. There's nothing like taking a drive with the top down in my convertible with Fred Astaire omitting from the speakers. We rush through so many things in life, I like to drive slowly and enjoy riding along. Over the  past year, the circumstances in my life were just as difficult as they were in the years prior - it was my outlook that changed. My attitude was the differentiation. How did I do it? One day at a time. I started slowly incorporating more of what I loved - more walks, more music, more style, more healthy food, more...

Lately, one of the themes that continuously comes up in my life is that we are made up of our choices. No, it's not a single choice that defines us... but each day we make thousands of choices and that turns into our character. It's the little moments that make up an entire day. Now I live on a conscious level. I try to make defined choices to ensure I develop my character. To ensure I am the person I want to be with the life I want to live. That person is happy and I hope that inspires you as you read it.
