Houston Hotspots: Siphon Coffee and a Cozy Poncho

Today was fun! I spent the entire day hopping all over Houston preparing this post for you guys. You may remember this poncho I wore two years ago when I was experimenting with back lighting in photography. I bought it after seeing it on Julia’s trip to New England and couldn’t help but run out and get one of my own.

I wore it all last year and this year I’ve decided to have it reemerge. This time instead of wearing it with moody deep jewel tones like eggplant or dark denim, I pulled out these amazing orange hued jeans! The color couldn’t have turned out better. I still wore it with my favorite leather loafers but added a more modern bag and my floppy brown hat.

I ran over to a few places today and my first stop was Siphon Coffee. It’s a local place over in Montrose near downtown Houston. The coffee shop has a utilitarian yet hipster feel with clean lines and rustic furniture mixed with brown leather. The patio was really colorful with large bulbs hanging above and lots of greenery.

I had a flat white with almond milk (no sugar or sweetener) and the hummus with crudites. It was a perfect late breakfast. One of the things I’ve been working on is eliminating most sugar and sweeteners from my regular daily diet. At first it was really tough, but I’m now on week two and found that if I fill my coffee half coffee and half almond milk I don’t need sweetener.
