Time is precious. It’s the one form of currency we cannot get back. Over the past few years, I’ve grown to be more and more intentional with how I spend my time. Taking out and saying no to activities that are energy draining. Spending time doing the things that bring me joy. Intentionally carving out special moments with people I love and care about. As I’ve done this day after day I realize most days I am living a dream I had years ago. Back in 2017, I went through a period of life that was incredibly trying. During that time I remember having a vision where I spent my time as much as possible in nature and traveling to see things I love. It was a peaceful vision. I’m happy to report that five years later much of my free time is spent doing just that. If you want your life to change, start taking small daily steps towards that life. Here are ways to build your dream life every day.
Start a Vision Board
Remember in school how we used to do a vision board at the beginning of projects? It served as a roadmap! Same for your life. Create a board on Pinterest or an album on your phone. You can also cover a bulletin board or wall in your home. Start keeping mementos and things that make you feel good. As you build your vision for your life you will start seeing patterns and even an aesthetic that can drive your environment which we will talk about next.
Give Your Closet and Home a Makeover
Unless you are a regular shopper like myself, you are probably long overdue for a wardrobe and home refresh. The pandemic definitely taught us all how much we prefer comfy clothes. Your body may have taken on a new shape these past few years or you may have outgrown old styles. Whatever the case do yourself a favor and start refreshing clothing pieces to suit who you are now. Then, tackle your environment. People thrive in environments that give them a sense of peace and safety. Create a cocoon for yourself to come home to every night.
Make a Few Plans
You don’t have to go overboard and fill every page in your calendar, but make yourself a list of a few activities you want to do over the next few months. Think of it as a seasonal bucket list. You can pick one or two things a week and work on them. For instance, go see that movie with a friend you’ve been dying to see. Go on a walk in a garden at sunset. Bake something from scratch. Whatever the case - keep the list on your phone and be intentional about crossing things off from time to time.
Remember, little choices add up. If you want to live your dream life you have to begin with making choices towards it. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in that place. Move towards that vision everyday until you look back and can’t remember the way it was before. I’m so proud of you, keep going.
