Home: The Little Parlor
Dress: Target (love this one) // Shoes: Carlos by Carlos Santana (also in black) // Bag: BCBG // Necklace and Earrings: vintage (see here and here for similar)
I am going to rewind a few weeks and share a post I've been dying to get up ever since it was photographed at the lovely Victory Rose Bed and Breakfast in Bryan, TX. I've shared in two previous posts where you can view their breathtaking dining room and southern front porch. This home is located near the heart of Historic Downtown Bryan, Texas and has the most charming views all around the home.
This scene was shot off the parlor in one of the upstairs guest bedrooms. I'll be sharing the bedroom itself later on, but there is a little breakfast parlor that sits off to the side where you can open up the sweet little floral shutters. It's a perfect place for to have a cup of tea with the sunlight streaming through in the morning. Sue, the owner, has created such a peaceful haven for guests to stay.
When you have a small space in a home, it's a great place to create a reading nook or library. Pick out smaller furniture pieces and add simple touches like a bird cage or a skirted table. Think petite so that the room does not feel overwhelming. Also, if possible put as much clear lighting inside the room or allow sunlight to maximize the space. This particular room has a wet bar and a small counter in the corner for a basket of breakfast muffins. It's the perfect place to read during the day.
I rarely do black. Much less a black dress. But... I found this little lovely and couldn't help myself for two reasons: it's eyelet lace (and I'm a sucker for anything that's eyelet) and the embroidered trim. There is something really stunning about how bright embroidery looks against basic black. So this little summer number was instantly added to my ever growing collection of dresses. I added feathery earrings, a vintage statement necklace and my favorite sandals (seen here, here, here and here).
