A Weekend Island Getaway - Jamaica Beach & Galvestion

Three Heel Clicks - A Weekend on the Island (1).jpg

This past weekend a few friends of mine decided to rent a house on Galveston Island. I’ve been there a couple of times before to camp on the beach, visit the Seawall and last year to have a picnic but this was the first time I stayed in a rented house. The home was adorable and had direct access to the canal. After arriving and getting settled into a charming bedroom decked out with coral details, it was time to explore.

For years now I’ve always wanted to kayak and lucky for me there were a couple of kayaks on the property. Let me tell you it’s a lot of fun, but definitely an upper body workout! Upon returning to the house we all relaxed while trying to catch fish and crabs. I’ve never tried to catch a crab before. Apparently, there are a couple of methods: you can string a turkey neck on a string and lower it down or use a crab trap. Never know when this info might come in handy!

Outfit 1 - Dress: Amazon (under $25, wore the yellow version in this post) // Hat: San Diego Hat Company // Slides: Franco Sarto // Purse: Amazon // Tote: Target

I decided to bring along a few Spring items since the weather was so pretty. I pulled out this white flowy dress you may remember from this post. I also ordered it last year in yellow in this post. I get tons of compliments every time I wear it. I pair it with simple white slides, a yellow straw tote and finally this straw hat I picked up in Marble Falls, TX.

The next morning after a slow rise and delicious brunch we loaded up the car and headed out to the beach. The weather was a perfect 65-75 degrees the whole weekend and it was nice to spend a little bit of time jogging up and down the sand for a few minutes. I decided to wear a pair of cutoff shorts (see this DIY project) a simple striped top (worn earlier in the month in this post with jeans) and a pair of ballet flats (searched everywhere for a link and could not find them - similar here). Still excited about it almost being Spring, I added my new hat again.

Later that afternoon we headed to The Strand which is a historic area of Galveston and one I don’t think I’ve been to before. The strand dates back to the mid 1800’s and consists of five blocks of iron fronted buildings. The architecture is mostly Victorian with shops, venues and delicious restaurants. Getting hungry by the minute we sat down to order at Pelican Joe’s which is a casual seafood restaurant and a lovely rooftop deck. It was a perfect place for an afternoon meal before heading back home.

If you have any Galveston recommendations I would love to hear about them!
