Three Ways to Freshen Up Your Work Wardrobe for Spring

About this time of year the last thing I want to do for a meeting or work occasion is pull out a suit. However, when I attend a meeting I still want to look pulled together and polished. Wearing clothing that makes you feel like you are organized and chic can help raise your confidence the next time you have to present something to a client or your boss. Although I no longer work in a traditional office setting, I still have many engagements that require at least business casual if not dressier. Let’s discuss a few ways you can update your wardrobe for Spring while maintaining professionalism.

Swap Your Suit for a Shirt Dress

The shirt dress is a classic. It was made popular in the 1940’s and 1950’s as hems started rising and women were beginning to enter the work force. A shirt dress can easily be dressed up by layer a lightweight blazer over it and adding a pair of classic pumps. You can also dress it up with a structured bag like a satchel or top handle. The dress I’m featuring today is from LOFT which is a go to brand for me to find office appropriate clothing. However, I currently have my eye on this dress from Gal Meets Glam and this one from JCrew.

Switch Up Your Shoes

I love how a shoe completely changes an outfit. I mentioned you can dress up a shirt dress with pumps, but another option include flats or low heel sling backs. If your office allows backless shoes, look for a cute mule or slide. If that’s not appropriate where you work you can stick to ballet flats and slingbacks that are comfortable but still sleek.

Layer Accessories With Spring Textures

I wrote a post earlier this month talking about two spring accessories you need now which included straw bags and scarves. I still stand by that trend! A scarf can be worn so many ways and I like to wear one around my neck to add a little bit of prep to a shirt dress. It’s also a fun way to bring in patterns or color. You can use an over sized straw tote in place of a traditional work bag that has plenty of room for notebooks, laptops, pens and planners.
