It’s that time of year! Finally, Texas bluebonnet season. If you’ve never been to Texas during this time of year then it’s time for you to plan your next trip! In late March and early Spring, the entire state becomes alive with wildflowers. Specifically, the Texas Bluebonnet which is our state flower. For years, my family flocked to find the best fields for photographs. It’s perfect for bridal pictures, senior college or high school pictures, family portraits, and of course, blog photos! I decided to round up a list of some of the top locations to find these bluebonnet fields!

Old Baylor Hill

I’ve come here several times over the years, and it never ceases to disappoint. There are tons of bluebonnets in bloom right now. It’s a gorgeous piece of land with huge trees that canopy like gigantic umbrellas. You can tour the old Baylor school ruins and relax while you visit some of the historic buildings on the property.

Brenham

You pretty much enter Brenham and will immediately spot fields of these babies everywhere. Street corners, front yards, and local parks have them sprouting up everywhere. Because it’s illegal to cut them down, they bloom sporadically all over this adorable town. Specifically, you can find a huge field behind the Walmart. You can also find a patch of them behind St. Ann’s Inn that’s perfect for golden hour lighting! If you head towards Old Baylor Hill you’ll turn left on FM 50 where there is another huge field!

Lake SomErville

If you are looking for a place to spend the day, this is the perfect location for bluebonnets. Lake Somerville is about 45 minutes from College Station, TX and is covered in bluebonnets. These pictures were all taken there. You can sit on a hill covered in them while overlooking fisherman and the sunset. There’s also camping and hiking available. You can use picnic tables and there’s a large pavilion for parties and events. I love being able to see the bluebonnets feet from the water!

Washington-on-the-Brazos

I’ve shared a handful of posts from this location (see here, here and here). It’s a beautiful park where the birthplace of Texas exists. There’s a three-mile loop you can take through the forest and tons of patches of wildflowers all over the place. It’s literally the best location for a picnic!

Navasota

The stretch of Highway 6 that runs from Hempstead to College Station with Navasota sitting about halfway between the two is filled with wildflowers! You can capture the perfect golden glow at sunset on the northbound side if you ride the access road between College Station and Navasota - check out these dreamy pics I did! Navasota is a small historic town sprinkled with bluebonnets. It’s also a great location to grab local coffee and go shopping!

McKinney Roughs Nature Park

I hiked about 9 miles at this park a week ago where I spotted the first bluebonnet of the season (shared here). This is an awesome place for hiking for a full day. There’s a total of 17 miles of trails in the park and a beautiful river that runs through! Bring sunscreen, snacks and lots of water!

College Station, TX

George bush library probably has some and then if you go to Highway 47 near the health science building there’s a bunch on the access road, too! Texas A&M The Gardens has a beautiful area with wildflowers! You can also see tons of other blooming beauties this time of year.

Hempstead, TX

This small town is a gem! I love stopping here on my way into the northside of Houston and grabbing delicious fresh fruit and veggies at Dilorio’s Farmer’s Market. You can also find a HUGE field on Hwy 290 and Highway 6! You can’t miss it as you are heading into Houston. There’s also more on the northside of the town as you head towards Brenham, TX.

I decided to wear the most adorable sundress I picked up last year for my trip to Florida. I also love grabbing one of my sunhats if I’m spending the day outside. I always make sure to have a blanket or towel in the car for impromptu picnics. There’s something amazing about grabbing a cup of coffee and sandwich to enjoy outdoors on a beautiful day. I’ve also been wearing these new pink Birkenstocks round the clock lately! They are worth every penny and incredibly comfortable!
