I don’t know about you but it seems as soon as the weather starts to get chilly, my skin requires a whole bunch more love than it did in the summer. One of the best ways to treat your skin is to use masks and what better way to use masks than stacking one on after another - aka - mask stacking. Let’s start by talking about four types of masks then we can look at a few combinations to get you better results!

The four types of masks we will use to treat common concerns includes a brightening mask, charcoal perfecting mask, oil control mask and exfoliating mask.

  • Brightening Mask - Made with licorice root and is a peel off mask designed to brighten skin tone, tighten fine lines and pores and lighten dark spots!

  • Perfecting Mask - Made with charcoal and is used to detoxify pores by bubbling up as it oxidizes.

  • Oil Control Mask - Made with kaolin clay and helps minimize shine in your skin.

  • Exfoliating Mask - This mask is made for all skin types and should be used at least once a week. It will help remove the dead skin cells and encourage cell turnover resulting in better skin.

Something to note about masks: You will notice after using any of the above four masks your skin will have immediate and long-term results. The key with any skincare regimen is consistency! Pick a few days a week and designate an extra 15 minutes to masking! I promise you will not be disappointed and who doesn’t love escaping the chaos of your household to practice a little self care in the bathroom. No mom guilt necessary for this treat!

Use the Perfecting Mask to detox pores

Common Conditions and Suggestions

Dry skin and hormonal acne combination - Use the exfoliating mask 2 x a week then follow with the perfecting mask as needed if experiencing a breakout. Follow with the brightening mask on your entire face once a week and then twice more a week on dark spots or acne scars. The perfecting mask and brightening mask can be used as spot treatments for a second or third application per week.

Rosacea and dry skin - Rosacea can be such a headache to deal with but improvements happen over time if treated properly. Try calming agents in your cleansers and rosewater toner to seal pores. Use an exfoliating mask to combat dryness and encourage cell turnover. Make sure you drink tons of water and then following with the brightening mask to lighten redness twice a week on your entire face.

Aging skin - The key with aging skin is to treat it delicately and moisturize. I recommend looking for serums and beauty oils with line minimizing elements. For masks, you’ll want to exfoliate at least one time a week and then follow with a brightening mask to tighten lines and pores. The brightening mask will also fade dark spots on your face. Make sure you top with a really great night cream before bed.

Oily skin with large pores - Let’s start with a oil or shine control element in your cleanser and then follow with the exfoliating mask. You’ll want to focus on areas that sweat collects on your face. Afterwards follow with an oil control mask or perfecting mask. Then, apply the brightening mask if you have any dark spots or scarring.

Combination and normal skin - So you are one of the few with pretty easy to please skin. I recommend using an exfoliating mask no matter what twice a week. Follow if needed with one of the other three masks as a full mask or spot treatment depending on what’s going on.

After apply any mask, you’ll want to follow with a toner to seal your pores. Apply serum, beauty oil and then night cream to add nourishment, heal and condition your skin.
