Texas Flower Season

Although I have a couple more Winter posts from traveling over the past few months, I wanted to kick off this weekend by sharing with you some amazing places you can spot flowers in Texas over the next few months. Texas is known for its wide open fields of bluebonnets however there are many other beautiful areas and types of flowers that start blooming from now until the end of the Summer. I decided to chronologically break them down if you are interested in seeing them all or plan a visit for certain blooms.
- March - Azaleas and Dogwood Trees are extremely popular during March. Azaleas tend to bloom for a couple of weeks here and right about the same time you'll find purple and white Dogwood trees all over the city. They loose most of their blooms quickly, so March is really the ideal time to see both plants.
- End of March - April - Just as the azalea bushes are shedding their flowers, fields of bluebonnets and indian paintbrush start lining the ground. You can spot them best in the Texas Hill Country, but cities like Brenham, Chappell Hill and Navasota have lovely fields as well.
- May - June - Sunflowers and roses are in bloom during these months. Where bluebonnets once laid you will find the sides of roads lined with beautiful bright yellow sunflowers. If you are in Houston or East Texas roses are in full force during this time.
This weekend Houston is hosting their Annual Azalea Trail with millions of azaleas in bloom. If you would like to attend you can stop by the Bayou Bend Museum and start the tour. I will be there myself on Saturday and cannot wait to see fields of beautiful white and pink flowers.
