5 On Fridays - Five Must Haves in LA

Three Heel Clicks - 5 On Fridays - Five must Haves in LA

I’ve been staying in LA for the past week as we begin to find our home for a long term stay. Every city has its own culture and I found LA has a really laid back vibe. Everyone dresses casual here. From Long Beach to Beverly Hills, the attire consists of pricey bags, cut off shorts, sunglasses and sneakers or sandals. Coming from Houston, it’s been a much easier transition than it was going into the Northern parts of the state. The weather is still cooler than Texas but less humidity and warm enough during the day to hit the pool or beach. The city doesn’t get going until later in the day and there is TONS of traffic. Here are 5 must haves for fitting in LA like a local.

Don’t Leave Home Without Sunglasses

It rarely rains in Los Angeles. In fact, it’s sunny and warm most of the year. Whether your driving or walking the sun is pretty ruthless out here. Make sure you have a good polarized pair of glasses. I love my mini ray-bans. They are fantastic for petite faces. They are classic and seem to pair with anything I throw on. Whatever style you choose, be practical. Make sure look for good coverage and durability.

You Will Be Walking, Wear Sneakers

ill be honest. I’ve always struggled with the sneaker trend! I feel like I’m wearing clunky hooves and rarely feel like they make my legs look longer. Until I met the platform sneaker! It gives me just a little height and when I wear them in a nude shade like tan, I find it does help lengthen short legs. Although you spend a ton of time in the car, you’ll find you walk a ton, too. People in LA definitely do NOT rock the sky high heels that NYC wears on the regular! Nope, fancy sneakers are the way to go down here.

Sport Clear Skin and a Solid Bronzer

I found as far as makeup trends are concerned most natives had clear, bare skin with a hint of bronzer and highlighter. They also have a tan. With good reason! From downtown LA to the beach is only 12 miles. Although I saw a good amount of eye makeup and berry inspired hues for Fall, the face was left bare allowing that natural sun glow to shine through. Try just using a little concealer or BB cream to get a sheer and natural effect. Don’t forget your SPF! You’ll need it all day long out here!

Make sure to carry a shopping bag

California charges for bags which is a little bit of an adjustment from Texas. Although I frequently try to not use disposable bags unnecessarily, I don’t always remember to bring my own bag. I noticed since I moved out here a foldable reusable tote is pretty necessary. I recommend grabbing one that’s foldable so when it’s not in use you can tuck it into your purse or a pocket.

Coffee or Juice in Hand

There is no shortage of coffee or juice shops in LA. Although there are tons of Starbucks, I was surprised at how many amazing local places there are around town. Most serve nitro cold brews and many with tons of flavors. Check out Intelligentsia or Tiago for a beautiful atmosphere and a delicious cup of brew. If coffee isn’t your thing then consider grabbing fresh juice or elixirs at pretty much any corner in the city!

As I start getting acclimated to California I hope to share a few more tips! If you live in LA or visit often, what are some of your must haves?
