Be the Light in Dark Times
I just watched our news in absolute disbelief and am writing this post a day prior to publishing. The ambiguity of our American government sits like a heavy thundercloud rolling in for a tornado to strike. I am not blind to what happened, and just as shocked as everyone else around the world who watched our country’s capitol building get overturned by a riot. Absolute insanity. After having discussions with teammates, friends, family and acquaintances I felt led to write this message and am typing right now as fast as I can so I don’t lose the words. I believe that what happened is not a representation of our country but a group of people who are angry. With a global pandemic in full surge, a divided nation on racial and political issues, and so many people crying out for mental health problems… there’s a looming feeling of uncertainty for all of us. However, I believe that goodness wins. I believe our hearts are bigger than what we see on the news and I believe our country will find a way to overcome this situation. It’s going to take all of us though.
In dark times, we have to collectively choose to be the light.
We have to spread good things in negative circumstances. We have to hold true to our core beliefs of love and compassion. Yes, it’s okay to be angry at what you witnessed, but we can move mountains with kindness. We have to find a way to do as many little things as possible right now to make things better. Better for everyone.
After being through what I would call a living hell in my previous years, I can firmly say that it’s in dark times that light shines the brightest. Be the light. Focus on today. Find as many ways as you can to make someone smile, laugh or feel good. Hug your loved ones you live with. Write each other positive messages. Focus on the good. Turn the news off as much as possible. Move your body and exercise. Live your life right now and do everything you can to make this world slightly better.
Be generous.
We absolutely cannot change what happened today but we are in a place to write our future. We can impact history books with a collective shift to unity and away from the division that continues to hurt one another. We can figure it out together instead of pointing fingers or placing blame. I challenge you to be the light. Be the light in your home, on your social media. Be the light in every single conversation you have. Lift others up with your words so that this is a turning point for us all to move forward. I challenge you to focus only on good things from today on. When something negative impacts you, write down a positive or two to counteract it. Rinse and repeat until your light shines enough to ignite others to shine theirs. Pass the love on.
I’m counting on you. #bethelight
